He was, who I thought he was...

I only have three things to say about the Changeling's, long-awaited and absolutely expected (by me) - "MORE WAR SIR!" speech:

h/t to Cinie (I think) for this photo

And - seriously and reverently:

'Nite now!

One thing that bothers me is that there are so many young people in the universities today that have no idea of what MLK Jr. advocated with regard to the use of military force and economic and environmental justice. But they still think they are educated--instead of brainwashed by celebrity culture.

Bothers me too, Hermana. I Have A Dream's "content of their character" and integration memes are all I hear bandied about to suit whatever group's particular needs at the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm with him on those things - I just believe his intent was integration as access, not assimilation. Rarely do I hear them talk of his Poor People's Campaign or his stand against war.

King's been hijacked by people of all races for all of the reasons I believe he would have been against. But that's just me.

The thing is, the nerve of him and his people trying to sell the war by simultaneously dangling a carrot of withdrawal. Or we expected to be that stupid. “Well, we don’t know what will happen from day to day, and we have not been able to make headway in Afghanistan by now, but yes, we will begin withdrawing come 2011.” Whatever. It reminds me of a crack head relative wanting to borrow money based on a job that they have not taken the drug test for yet.

Hey Kitty! Yep, we're expected to be that stupid - and plenty of us are. Either that, or blinded by the wishing and hoping it made sense.

Starting withdrawal now, to be completed by 2011 would've been the better bet. Given we've bombed their homes, to all hell, we could at least help them rebuild before leaving them the hell alone.

You were probably seeing the initial roll-out of what he'd already planned to do, all the while trying to make everybody think he was deeply pondering about what he was going to do - you know, all that "dithering" bullshit.
