Zimmerman finally in an orange jumpsuit

George Zimmerman being charged with murder in Trayvon Martin case:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Amid furious public pressure to make an arrest in the Trayvon Martin slaying, the special prosecutor on the case went for the maximum Wednesday, bringing a second-degree murder charge against the neighborhood watch captain who shot the unarmed black teenager.

George Zimmerman, 28, was jailed in Sanford - the site of the killing Feb. 26 that set off a nationwide debate over racial profiling and self-defense - on charges that could put him in prison for life.

Let the games begin...

I'm not celebrating yet...an arrest means nothing, especially a month and a half after the crime. No, I'll wait to see what, if any, punishment is applied to Zimmerman...and, if the punishment is adequate for the crime he has been charged with.

*Sits back and waits for the fat lady to sing*

Hey there!

I totally agree wih you hence my, "Let the games begin..."

His ditching his lawyers and contacting the prosecutor before turning himself in, certainly gives me pause. Was safe transport to jail the only promise made? One has to wonder...

I'll be sittin' and waitin' right there with you sepultura13! :D

So anyway, Deb, I'm not sure whether to start blogging under my real name. There's problems there, but then again I intend somewhere down the road to use the internet to promote my art work (when I resume). It's not hard to find, after all, that "nomad" is (was) Leon Murphy.

From now on "nomad" only blogs about art.

But I still have to do that post on inverse racism.

nomad...Hey Wasn't ignoring our previous discussion via email, just tryin' to work through some shit (tried replying today, but I see you've made the blog private - I can understand the feeling). What I was going o say though, is I'm not gettin' in that shit! You guys bot, seem so far apart from one another in life - and life experiences that I can't see how anybody can convince either of you that: 1) you're brothers from the "same mother" (metaphorically anyway) 2) the kind of back-and-forth I witnessed (read) serves none of us

I perused the artblog and, though I don't know shit-from-shinola about art, IMHO - you're a gifted brother whose art can say everything you need/want to say way more successfully than your words ever could. Look, I feel you on this - "Non-White White Supremacy" Yes. Anti-blackism is a disease from which blacks themselves are not immune. These black anti-blacks believe that blacks generally are niggers. They just see themselves as the rare exceptions. Been there, still doing that (coupled of course, with the, "You must hate yourself bullshit" from folk who know absolutely nothing about me)!

But I also get folk like CD & CnU, just like I get the Changeling ("there, but for the grace - of waking the hell up - go I!"). Doesn't mean I'm with that shit, or think anybody should just shut up and go along to get along (Lawd knows that's not me!).

But something else I get, is that all of us Black folk - PARTICULARLY those of us born and raised in these alleged united states - are part of a purposefully manipulated, two-sided coin ("coin" being the operative word - from slavery til today!). Some of us will come to see that, others never will.

So I say to you - "Use the art 'mad!" Trust me, like Richard Wright's "words" - IT is/can be your greatest weapon! Gotta to be honest with you though, I'd sure like to see a lil more of my choklit likeness therein! :-D

Take care of yourself, Man...

OK. But let it be known that I didn't start it. I swear it was self defense. He tried to tarnish bully and intimidate me. I could have walked away but I chose to fight this particular battle and expose the nature of the smear CNu projected upon me. I never expected you to become involved but I honestly don't see the equivalence you suggest. In some disputes one of the parties is actually wrong. And you know what? It actually feels good to have told off.

I read it. Understood.

"He tried to tarnish bully and intimidate me."

Exactly what he tried to do which serves no one but him, and those who think like him. Certainly not, IMHO, "we people who are darker than blue" - at least not in my mind.

"...I chose to fight this particular battle and expose the nature of the smear CNu projected upon me."

The smear itself was expositive of how he feels about Blacks not like him. Your response was on-point (and supportted by an Anon there who joined you in your fight, which was good to see) that did serve all of us, to my mind, except those of us who think like he presently does.

All I saw was his attacks getting uglier and more disrespectful, cheap-shottin' you by reaching back to include other shit you'd shared in good faith. The whole display just seemed to serve no one I give a shit about - but it certainly seemed to entertain the white folk. But folk like sledge, for example, always seem to get a kick out of us tearing each other apart.

"I never expected you to become involved but I honestly don't see the equivalence you suggest."

When I said I wasn't gettin' in that shit, I meant it seemed obvious to me that there'd be no resolution, just a deeply, "personalized" tearing up of each other that I try REAL hard not to do with my people (but hey, I'm human - it doesn't always work out that way!).

What equivalence? Surely you're not talking about the - brothers from the "same mother" metaphor - are you?

"In some disputes one of the parties is actually wrong."

Yep, you're right. I guess for me though, sometimes ya gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em and sometimes -know when to lay their ass out.

Guess this was your time for the latter if it actually made you feel good to have told him off.

Just my 2 cents, Man - really.

"-know when to lay their ass out."
Yep. That certainly was my intention.

No, I thought you were saying we were both equally wrong.

Actually CNu and I had/have a lot of interests in common. That's why I was visiting his site. I actually thought we were friends. I was actually enthusiastic about learning from him. And then he pulled something like this. If there is one thing I hate worse than being insulted racially it's treachery. And he resorted to both. And threatened to kick my ass to boot. I cannot imagine not fighting back against such abuse. It was beyond the pale.

Oh, Okay. No, I just hate to see it play out between us folk like that.

"Actually CNu and I had/have a lot of interests in common...I actually thought we were friends. I was actually enthusiastic about learning from him."

I thought you did too. Can't say as I believe folk can truly be "friends" on the internet - not unless they've some other connection to one another off it. But surely, people can connect in a friendly way, sharing common interests, opinions, goals, etc. And I can't lie, I did enthusiastically learn some very interesting information from him awhile back.

"If there is one thing I hate worse than being insulted racially it's treachery."

I 'm certainly with you on that!

nomad said...

" people can connect in a friendly way,"

Yes. That's what I meant. You certainly wouldn't expect gratuitous abuse from such a person. No question he's a smart guy. But to what end? There's lots of smart people on the web. I'd rather connect with smart people that ain't crazy. Like pseudo-Thrasher said, "Educated fools are lethal." Speaking of whom, I now understand why he had such animosity towards CNu.

But I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just wanted to let you know where I am blogging. From now on nomad stays home (except for your blog). When I visit other blogs from now on I am Anonymous.

DebC said...

"But to what end?"

Chile, who knows?! We each have our own motivations for the things we do, and one can certainly only guess what they are for others. Sometimes we're right, sometimes, not.

"But I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just wanted to let you know where I am blogging. From now on nomad stays home (except for your blog)."

No problem, Man. Just remember turn-about is fair play when I wanna talk! And yeah, I told you, I'm trying my best to stay "home" more myself. Hard sometimes with my opinionated self, but I find that a lot of times, for as many reaons - it's best (you know you're always welcome here).

On another totally unrelated note, consider this interesting piece on Truthdig today, my "friendly," times-a-wastin' nudge on the art thing! :-D
http://www.truthdig.com/arts_culture/item/portraits_of_his_people_a_tribute_to_willie_middlebrook_20120522/

It only mentions Elizabeth Catlett's name among others, but my steel-trap of a mind remembered that you told me about her awhile ago. Don't know why, but I looked her up again just now, she died last month. :-(

Food for thought...

Damn. Deb, you would love studying black American art. Many of the major figures were women. The first truly black American artist of renown was a woman. (The men before her were black, but they were mulattoes, more white than black.)Edmonia Lewis was her name. Okay. Gon check out that article.

Man, I told you before, I don't know JACK about art appreciation, Black or otherwise (though I'd like to) - HOWEVER, you could be VERY instrumental in teaching me a thing or two - by posting a series on those Black women artists (including the mulattoes, as our African blood also runs through their veins)! So whaddya say, Bruh?!

Yeah, I really should. I mean, I am, but the blog where I post on this is jumbled and neglected right now. I'll work on it.
