CBC maybe toothless (and they are) - but damn!

I was sitting in the doctor's office, waiting for a minor procedure today, and they had CNN on.  I wasn't really paying attention to the shit they were shoveling under the cover of "news" - at least not until I heard the Changeling's voice - trying to flex.  And when I looked up from my book, and realized he was talking to the Congressional Black Caucus - I felt that appalling, condescending "twinge" that I always feel when he's talking to, or about Black folk.

I turned to my husband and said, "What the hell?!  How come he feels he can just talk to the CBC any kinda damned way - but not anybody else?!"  (And dammit!  Stop tryin' to channel MLK!)  Slippers?? Really?!

To ask the question is to answer it (since he was talking - down - to the CBC!), but it seems I wasn't the only one feeling that "twinge":

CBC member Maxine Waters reacts to Obama: We're not complaining

While Maxine definitely needs to get her own legal and financial house in order regarding that OneUnited bailout cash (and she ain't the only one!) if she is to be respected for NOT playing the same damned games that her alabaster brethren play on the regular - I vigorously applaud the sister's comeback!

UPDATE:  If, and/or when they hold these ethics hearings on Maxine Waters steering bailout money to OneUnited, she certainly needs to raise this issue:  Perry has deep relationships with his campaign bank, despite bailout money

I liked Waters's comeback simply because she was right about the Hispanics, gays, and Jews - Obama doesn't talk to them like that.

However...the question really is "Who was he talking to? Black people? OR just the CBC?" 'Cause if it's just the CBC and their rich asses, I understand. But black people? Not so much?

We want jobs. We want the police to behave themselves when our husband, brothers, and sons are on the road. We want cleaner, safer communities and better schools. We want men like Troy Davis to NOT get put to death.

That's not "complaining", if you ask me.

Hey Lil Sis! "I just thought you right up!" as my Grandmama used to say. I was reading your most recent post when your comment came in (deeply moving and so, "too close for comfort," that I have to wait to comment - maybe in the morning).

"I liked Waters's comeback simply because she was right about the Hispanics, gays, and Jews - Obama doesn't talk to them like that."

Me too, cuz he doesn't - nor does he talk to white folk like that.

"However...the question really is "Who was he talking to? Black people? OR just the CBC? 'Cause if it's just the CBC and their rich asses, I understand."

While I'm with you on the "their rich asses" part, I'm going for the former because I've seen him do it enough times to think I'm right.

Poor "Pookie," eatin' fried chicken in front of the TV in the mornin' got a break this time - but that has not always been the case.

And every one of those "wants" you enumerated - are valid. And no, that's certainly not complaining.

Hey, Deb, I know you don't care for the CBC, but, you really think Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel's ethics "violations" are...coincidental? This all goes back to refusing to get on board from jump street. Same folks he told to "get over it." Same folks who didn't like him much when he was the only Senate member and didn't really hang out then, if you get my drift. As for "who's zooming who," some folks were being talked to in person, some by proxy, and some folks heard the "I'm in a better position to lecture them than other presidents" dog whistles. (He said that in a meeting with the Washington Post about black fathers right before taking office.) Same script, different day. Only this time it's not playing as well outside the venue as the Father's Day or Race speech. If you Google it, you'll find a lot more "he might as well have said take off your head scarf and be quiet you lazy ass whiners" kind of complaints and grumbles than the writing team has ever gotten used to getting away with before.

Hey woman! No, but are you saying there weren't any?

I think they put themselves in a position to get got (though certainly no more and probably decidedly less than their alabaster brethren) - and so far Rangel got got, having to pay millions to try and defend himself, a public shaming in the well of Congress (probably the deepest blow for him) and some more cash he had to dole out to pay 17 years worth of back taxes on that rental property in the Dominican Republic.

If I were Maxine, I'd get my shit in order as best I could because they ARE coming for her - and she knows it. Rangel was an example - kinda like a public whipping of one slave to keep the rest in line. Which is why I vigorously applaud her "Fuck you, Buddy" response.

And no, I still ain't got shit for the CBC as a body, because instead of them doing some "real" shit for people (or at least taking a damned meaningful stand), it seems they still prefer to "be like white Mike," going along to get along, so they can continue to be the "rich asses" Ankh mentioned above.

Pretty much, yeah, I'm saying the charges are trumped up. And, Maxine has been very vocal about her "shit or get off the pot" defense which so far, hasn't caused anybody to step up and squat. Hard to see where anything either of them did "brought shame on the House of Representatives." As for the efficacy of the body as a whole, I'm a little more sympathetic than to simply dismiss them out of hand as enemies of the people. Are they politicians? Yeah. But compared to some I could think of, they a'ight. And, remember Alice Palmer.

"Pretty much, yeah, I'm saying the charges are trumped up."

Trumped up? Why? Because everybody else does it?

Seeing as I've never been one who sees shit as okay because so-and-so did it, I guess we have to agree to disagree on that point, particularly since Rangel admitted and apologized for the non-payment of taxes, but qualified it by saying "it was careless and not intentional" (he, who was the CHAIRMAN of the TAX-LEGISLATION-WRITING House Ways and Means Committee?) and "not for personal gain" (whatever that 17-year total came to, was, in fact, "personal gain" in my book since he got to keep it in his pocket).

"And, Maxine has been very vocal about her "shit or get off the pot" defense which so far, hasn't caused anybody to step up and squat."

Only because the committee got its own ass in a sling with those investigators leaking shit to the Republicans on the committee during the investigation. So, they had to hire an outside attorney to handle her investigation and their ass is being investigated their-damned-selves! That said, the no movement is NOT because she didn't do shit.

Please, just for shits - tell me how your Chief of Staff (who is also your damned grandson), could not know that your husband (his damned grand-daddy)was not only on the Board of Directors of, but financially involved with, this failing bank (over a quarter million dollars involved) where investors would lose all their cash if they didn't get that bailout money? And Maxine is a ranking member of the Financial Services (Banking) Committee! No amount of shinin' up shit and callin' gold would make me believe that!

I agree - since everybody else is doing it - they didn't bring any "shame on the House of Representatives," however, the intent of Rangel's censure was to shame him - which I said before, was probably his biggest blow (seeing as he apologized to family and friends for the position he put them in).

"I'm a little more sympathetic than to simply dismiss them out of hand as enemies of the people."

As is your right, but they sure ain't their people's friends.

"Are they politicians? Yeah. But compared to some I could think of, they a'ight."

I don't care for the politician games. Just my old-assed naivete I guess, cuz "compared to some" seems to set a pret-ty low bar. But that's just me.

I do remember Alice Palmer (I'm sure she's a long-forgotten blip on the Changeling's radar though).
