The "Harlem Shake?"

Full disclosure:  I've not had much for Melissa Harris-Perry, especially given her seemingly, undying fealty to our Murderer-in-Chief who ignores all manner of Blackness -- either here, or abroad.  But I can't lie y'all -- I appreciate the HELL out of what she said and did here!

The guy at the 2:23 click sums it up hilariously and succinctly: "That's not The Shake, B!!  Aw-w-w, no good."

I don't have cable so I see none of these news stories. But, that aside, I am so happy she put this out and glad you posted it. Some of us hate how the "pinks" can take something, distort it, then claim it as their own. The feeling I got when I saw the vid was that of how we from SoCal felt when Serena Williams put that Crip Walk down on them Londoners during the Olympics last summer...

http://ecosoulintellectual.blogspot.com/2012/08/london-olympics-entry-4-crip-walk.html

Just to be clear about the Crip Walk...I never "claimed" a gang. Most of us from Southern Cali never claimed growing up, only a few did. Gangs don't or I should say didn't recruit in California. Individuals claimed the gang the gang does/did not claim individuals.

From Eco Soul Intellectuals piece that sums this feeling up...

"And as a child who grew up about a 10 minute drive from where Serena was reared, I know exactly Serena's POV. It has nothing to do with gangs. This is our native American black Angeleno war dance, a dance of strength and champion."

Peace!

Hey Amenta! I have cable and I don't watch her, nor Sharpton because of their, "The Changeling can do no wrong" attitudes and because they have a platform to hold his feet to the fire but don't; I saw this somewhere else (my C(an't)R(emember)S(hit) is acting up so I can't tell you where).

But I have to give credit where credit is due -- and she nailed shit! I know I just can't stand all of their thieving! But then again, when you have no identifiable culture, stealing that of others who do, seems to be standard operating procedure.

Great post about Serena! I concur with every word of it. I've seen her writing over at Rippa's, Intersection of Madness and Reality, but I didn't know she had her own bog. Adding her to My Lynx!

Thanks, and Peace back atcha

Amenta...Just had to come back and say that I was partially wrong about Melissa Harris-Perry. I watched another video of her over at The Intersection of Madness & Reality and I have to say (even though I stand by the first part of my comment about her Obama-love), she IS using her platform to address our issues and very well indeed. Check this out: http://video.msnbc.msn.com/melissa-harris-perry/51017770

It was embedded in this very good post by Rippa on the Bloomberg cover: http://www.rippdemup.com/2013/03/what-bloomberg-businessweeks-racist-cover-says-about-you/ -- and before I knew it, I was watching all her shit! I'm gonna have to write a post one of these days about how one can miss good information when you take an all-or-nothing stance (Look, I got no problem owning my shit -- only way to learn!). Since you don't have cable, here's a link to her home page if you want to check out some of her shows.

Also, where are you on your BlogTalk radio channel? Did a little listening over at Rippa's (hadn't been to his site in a while -- didn't even know he had one!) and it made me remember you said you were gonna do it.

Peace...

Hey sistar,
Thanks for the link. I have not been to Rippa's place in a minute, I will travel over there. No I have not started it yet, don't know what I'm waiting for.

I think some of our tv folk use the Obama worship to help maintain their platform.

Peace.

Amenta...Not ignoring you, just got a few pressing things going on -- still.

"I think some of our tv folk use the Obama worship to help maintain their platform."

Not sure what you mean -- to help keep their jobs they probably wouldn't even have had he not gotten selected?

anamika gangwar...Thanks for dropping in and I'm glad you "like it" (if you really do). I won't, however be following your link, as not only could that be dangerous to my computer's health, I'm not interested in any kind of advertising whatsoever -- which is why there are no ads on this blog! Peace...
