Soul Train Music Awards...

Tear it up Chillun!  I was blessed to have existed on the bridge of Erykah Badu and Gladys Knight -- and for that, I'm so very grateful:

Erykah and India -- what more can Black folk want??!!  Okay, Teddy Riley was, and is -- the SHIT!

Talked to the husband, who's out of the country for work, and he said "How old are we Deb, that the guy who gets a "Legend Award" -- is somebody whose music we loved and danced to??!!   Then he started singing "Let's Chill, let's settle down..."!!  All I could say was, "No shit!" as the tears streamed down my face.  I've never loved him more...

Hi Deb

Thanks for the kind words over at Abagond's. I have got to say things became strange today with entering comments. I know I've got a new mouse but it's not glitching anywhere else. So I think it was the site. I'd type in something and when I hit enter stuff I thought I typed in disappeared. No biggy there. But then I tried to enter the link I had forgot. THREE TIMES! It wouldn't post. It was like some kind of targeted attack on my ability to comment there. I don't think its an accident. The pro Hillary climate there seems very odd to me. All the crimes of Hillary coming out thru wikileaks and Abagond pretending they are inconsequential. I thought Abagond was an honest broker but I no longer believe that. He is too cooperative in disseminating memes handed down from corporate media. Fake news. Trump is Hitler. Etc. Just my two cents from what I observed there.

Hey there! You're quite welcome, 'mad -- I just try to call 'em as I see 'em, Brother. The situation became so rife with vitriol, it just became too much for me so I more or less lurked on and off. Finally though, cuz I was so-o-o-o disappointed, I had to say something. Man, I don't know if it was targeted or not, because right after Abagond said he was deleting your Kimberley comment because you didn't give the link, I posted the link, but it never showed up. Then, after you asked him to fix it, he did and told me that he did, so I don't know.

Look Man, I won't lie, I love Abagond's spot, I really do. I've learned a ton of shit I never knew about from his posts, as well as from plenty of his commenters. When we're all "on" over there, having insightful, enlightened, invigorating conversation, I'm down 100. But once the name-calling and all the emotions that go with it emerge -- I'm out. Hell, there's more than enough of that shit going on in the world and at some point I have to put the brakes on for my own mental health!😆

I still think he's an honest broker -- but I agree his loyalty to Hillary & the Dems confuses me. I can't judge his loyalties though, Man -- we all have them, along with reasons -- good or bad why. It's for each of us to comb through the facts and then decide where we stand and then, stand. All I look for are folk willing to share information, discuss our differences like adults, drop some knowledge, take some knowledge (separate the wheat from the chaff as it were) and keep it movin'. I don't think we can ask or expect much more than that. But, if we get more, it's a beautiful thing!

I hope you're feelin' well my Brother. I want you to take care of yourself!!! I hope you do keep checkin' out Abagond's because, trust me, you bring plenty to the table.

Peace...

thanks. i have a friend in orangeburg SC. where are you located?

"right after Abagond said he was deleting your Kimberley comment because you didn't give the link, I posted the link, but it never showed up."
Interesting! I think I had my mouse on the wrong setting. But yeah. It would not have caused the link not to post. So it wasn't all me after all.

"I hope you're feelin' well my Brother. I want you to take care of yourself!!!"
I'm doing real good for a guy with cancer. Not eating well though. That's not good.
"I hope you do keep checkin' out Abagond's because, trust me, you bring plenty to the table."

Yeah, sure. Got to talk to black people every once in a while.

I'm in North Charleston, a little further south. My link eventually showed up and he explained to me that he'd made sure to add it to your comment -- and he did.

Glad you're doing real good -- BUT YOU HAVE TO EAT WELL!! When my mother had cancer and didn't feel like, or didn't want to eat food because of the chemo, she at least drank some Ensure daily to get the vitamins and protein she needed to carry her over until she felt like eating. Try that Darlin', just so you get something in your system to hold you.

"Yeah, sure. Got to talk to black people every once in a while."

Tell me about it! I went to a meeting to support Black Lives Matter last night at the North Charleston City Council meeting and in many ways -- I wish I hadn't. I just can't seem to convince Black folk here that, as Grace Hopper said, "It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission."

Here, they keep ASKING for permission, rather than reading the state statutes regarding
a Citizen's Review Board with subpoena power, and doing the damned thing, rather than asking the people for forgiveness if the referendum fails! SMMFH!!! It's f*ckin' maddening!!!

And the beat goes on...

Take care, Brother

i imagine you and my sc friend are much alike. she's same age as you. very outgoing. except she drank the obama hillary kool aid. directs the band at university there.

hows your health btw?

DebC said...

Hey 'mad, glad to hear you're at least drinking the Boost, think I'll try it myself since it seems to be a little bigger bottle than the Ensure! I started drinking the Ensure once a day when my mother started drinking it because I don't eat well either -- mainly because I'm lazy as hell and hate to cook for the most part! 😊

"glad you're politically active. i'm a recluse."

Quiet as it's kept, so am I lately. I try to get involved as much as I can be, but since I don't have, nor want a Facebook page, it's difficult to know what's going on when. I just happened to read about what the City Council was going to be discussing in the local paper and decided to show up because I knew the BLM folk would be there. They used to have a regular website, but nobody's been updating it (something I complained about to the guy who's ostensibly the head of the local chapter. Said he'd look into it, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's hard for me to be as active as I want when the lines of communication are limited to a small circle of folk due to technology. Actually, I think that's a major reason why Walter Scott's death was more a moment than a movement. They didn't understand they needed to reach ALL the people instead of just those on Facebook.

Hence, I'm a semi-recluse. I never thought I'd feel not welcome in my own hometown, but that's basically where I sit.

"hows your health btw?"

Physically, I can't complain, Brother. It is my mental health with which I'm more concerned. After a little over two years living here, I'm convinced -- it's time to get the hayell outta Dodge! The husband and I had planned to retire here because I was homesick -- but this is no longer my home and it has screwed my head up, so much so that I haven't been able to write about any of what's been going on!

Oh well, thanks for listening Brother...

"I never thought I'd feel not welcome in my own hometown, but that's basically where I sit."

that's awful. i've never felt welcome in my home town, so I'm 'used to it'. Not really. I'm between black snobs and ghetto folk. Both see me as an outsider. That's the way its always been. Just got no where else to go. If it wasnt for my sisters and my brother i'd probably be dead.

DebC said...

Yeah, I know. I'm in exactly the same place but -- not used to it, cuz it hurts, deeply. If it's always been that way, I missed it.

"If it wasn't for my sisters and my brother i'd probably be dead."

If something happened to me here, I'd be shit out of luck -- even though my brother lives here and my sister's only an hour away. I moved back thinkin' "they got me (after tryin' to work through our shit) -- I was wrong. My emotions, out-weighed reality and I got a serious ass-whippin' as a result. Still workin' through it Brother -- as should you...

Damn, Deb. I'm sorry I missed this comment. How are things going now? Your husdand? Kids? I hope things are going well. I saw the post about missing someone. I know thats hard.

Anyway. I know you like Abagond. Sorry about what happened but had to defend myself.

Hey there, 'Mad! No problem, happens to me too!

Things are much better now since I sold the house in SC and moved back to TX where the family I created is. The husband, who was deployed for his civilian, "gubment" job, has returned (the "missing someone" post was about him) and retired in March and we closed on the house here the end of April. The sons are doing well. The oldest has his own Child Development Center as well as a new baby girl who's takin' her time getting to know me and a 9 year-old daughter with whom me and the husband have a standing Thursday date to do whatever fun thing she wants (went roller-skating last Thursday and found myself flat on my ass 3-4 times!!😆😆😆😆 In addition to his day job, The youngest is half-owner of a new, fresh-squeezed juice business downtown in the tourist district that his partner had started down in McAllen, TX and moved here. It's doing real well! Me & the husband hang out down there with them on Second Saturdays and people watch. All in all, I made the right choice to leave SC cuz I was slowly losing my damned mind there! Once I finished getting settled in, I'll see how "politically active" I'll be here in the" Belly of the Beast."

As for Abagond, NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO ME!!! Yes, I like his writing and like I said upthread, "I've learned a ton of shit I never knew about from his posts, as well as from plenty of his commenters. When we're all "on" over there, having insightful, enlightened, invigorating conversation, I'm down 100. But once the name-calling and all the emotions that go with it emerge -- I'm out." And you, you have to do WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU as well in that regard.

You're not gonna change the minds of any of the Changeling's apologists, not even with facts. That's something they've got to come to on their own. When he banned you, I immediately thought about something Leah Remini said in that special about Scientology -- "No one wants to wake up one day and find out everything they've believed in was a lie." I get it. That's how I felt when I had my "crisis of faith" and swore off White Jesus. Those over at Abagond's who believed in the Dems and the Changling for whatever reason, will have to come to the same realization -- or not. That's not on you or me, Brother. As soon as I start writing again, you KNOW you are more than welcome here right??!! 😄

Hope you're taking good care your health, Brother. Stay in touch...
